In February, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts will begin accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2017 Festival Grants and Community Investment Grants. Prior to the March 17 application deadline for these grant programs, arts Commission staff will present online information sessions to help applicants prepare their application materials.

Presented in partnership with VSA Arizona and the Tempe Center of the Arts, the Arts Commission is offering two workshops on ADA compliance with Eileen Bagnall, Executive Director of VSA Arizona and ADA policy expert..
Two sessions will be offered:
1:00pm – ADA Compliance: Know the Basics
An introduction to the basic concepts, principles and considerations of ADA compliance, ideal for individuals new to the field.
3:00pm – Beyond Compliance: Advancing ADA Practices
A more advanced exploration of best practices and next steps to move your organization to the next level of inclusivity. This session builds on the previous session, but may be attended on its own by those already familiar with the basics.
Each session is $6.00, or attend both for only $10.00.

In Arizona, Poetry Out Loud (POL), is administered by the Arizona Commission on the Arts in collaboration with POL Regional Partners.
Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure that begins at the classroom level. Winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals.

Introduction and Approaches to Creative Aging
Creative Aging is an exciting national movement to advance understanding of the vital relationship between creative expression and healthy aging. Join us in this experiential workshop to learn more about Creative Aging and how arts engagement benefits older adults. Guest artists, Maria Genné and Jane Tygesson will share some of the latest research in Creative Aging and lead an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care. The workshop will also introduce possibilities for participatory art making in dance, music, visual arts, poetry and story, and participants will leave with concrete tools and ideas to use in their own programs and work.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, caregivers, volunteers, teaching artists, and arts organizations.
Registration cost is $5. Registration closes Tuesday, February 16, 2016 or once capacity has been reached.

A two-day professional development workshop with Linda Essig
Learn how to improve the business operations of your creative practice in this two-day artist professional development workshop led by Linda Essig. Participants will learn how to develop a more entrepreneurial approach to their creative practice and will receive a free copy of the Arizona Arts Entrepreneur Toolkit. The toolkit puts resources, step-by-step instructions, and templates in one place to help artists support the business side of their creative practice.
