Acompáñanos el primer viernes del mes de diciembre a escuchar las historias de los estudiantes del segundo taller de escritura creativa en español en Palabras Librería, gracias al apoyo de Arizona Commision on the Arts.

The Arizona Commission on the Arts and Palabras Bilingual Bookstore are proud to present a public reception with the participants of a Spanish-language creative writing workshop series led by local writer Ofelia Montelongo and sponsored by the Arts Commission’s AZ ArtWorker initiative, which is funded by a grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. Montelongo and her students will read works developed during their eight weeks working and learning together.

Ofelia Montelongo is an aspiring author. Originally from Mexico, she has a Bachelor’s in English and Creative Writing and she was the Student Editor-in-Chief at Superstition Review during Fall 2016. Ofelia is also a freelance photographer and writer at Phoenix New Times, Phoenix Magazine, and So Scottsdale. She has her own business in Scottsdale (Chocolate Tour of Scottsdale). She is enrolled in a PhD in Spanish Literature and Mexican-American studies program at ASU. Two of her stories have been published by Lux Undergraduate Creative Writing and is currently working with the project In Sight II: Literature + Art lead by Four Chambers.

Palabras Bookstore provides the Phoenix community with books in Spanish and English with an emphasis on diverse cultural representation of authors and social awareness. Palabras is much more than a bookstore. It is a safe and encouraging environment for inter-cultural community exchange, providing the community with opportunities to share literary, visual and musical art through workshops and events.

This program is supported through a grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation.
