Introduction to Creative Aging: Myths of Aging and the Power of the Arts
Join us to learn about the myths of aging and how arts engagement benefits older adults.
- Jorge Merced, Associate Artistic Director of Pregones Theater, will provide a keynote on Creative Aging and an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care.
- Dr. Walter Nieri, Director of The Center for Health Aging at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, will share current research on healthy aging and the factors that contribute to quality of life.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, teaching artists, and arts organization staff.
This event is free, but registration is required. Registration closes Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Introduction and Approaches to Creative Aging
Creative Aging is an exciting national movement to advance understanding of the vital relationship between creative expression and healthy aging. Join us in this experiential workshop to learn more about Creative Aging and how arts engagement benefits older adults. Guest artists, Maria Genné and Jane Tygesson will share some of the latest research in Creative Aging and lead an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care. The workshop will also introduce possibilities for participatory art making in dance, music, visual arts, poetry and story, and participants will leave with concrete tools and ideas to use in their own programs and work.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, caregivers, volunteers, teaching artists, and arts organizations.
Registration cost is $5. Registration closes Tuesday, February 16, 2016 or once capacity has been reached.
Join us for a half day symposium with Lincoln Center Education to learn more about the current state of the teaching artist field nationally, to discuss the Arizona survey results, help outline steps to move the field forward locally, and engage in breakout sessions led by Lincoln Center Education teaching artists.

The Teaching Artist Symposium is presented by the Arizona Commission on the Arts with Lincoln Center Education at Mesa Arts Center. Presenting partners include Childsplay, Phoenix Office of Arts & Culture, and Mesa Arts Center.

During the month of April, the Arizona Commission on the Arts will host an online information session on the new Arts Learning grant programs: Arts Learning Collaboration Grants and Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants. This session will be offered on two separate occasions.

- Arts Learning Collaboration Grants enhance the work of arts educators, classroom teachers and school-based arts programs through collaborative projects taking place in-school (during regular school hours), after-school, or during summer/inter-session and in-services.
- Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants enhance the work of community and social service organizations/ governmental entities through partnership projects with professional teaching artists and/or arts organizations.
Grant guidelines for both Arts Learning Collaboration Grants and Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants are available for review now. The application period for Cycle A will open the first week of April, 2016.

Join the Arizona Commission on the Arts and Prescott Meals on Wheels for a workshop on creativity and aging with Gary Glazner, award winning poet and Founder/Director of the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project. This fun, high-energy workshop is packed-full of simple techniques to help imagine high-quality arts programs for older adults, build communication skills and help increase the ability to connect with people living with memory loss.

Join the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Arizona Western College and WACOG Area Agency on Aging to learn more about Creative Aging, an exciting national movement to advance understanding of the vital relationship between creative expression and healthy aging.
Guest artist Jorge Merced will provide an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care, and the brain/body research which shows that older adults who are engaged in the arts experience better overall health, enjoy a higher quality of life, and are more active in their communities. Participants will connect with other providers and artists interested in enriching the lives of older adults in their community, and will leave with concrete tools and ideas for Creative Aging in their own programs and work.

Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, caregivers, volunteers, teaching artists, and arts organizations.

FY2016 Community Investment Grant, Festival Grant and Arts Learning Grant Final Report Deadline
Complete a Final Report in the GO system at http://arizona.culturegrants.org. While Final Reports must be submitted no later than Monday, September 12, 2016, the Arts Commission recommends that Final Reports be submitted within 30 days of the completion of the funded activities (for Festival and Arts Learning Grants) or the organization’s Fiscal Year (for Community Investment Grants).
Failure to submit a FY2016 Final Report by the posted deadline will render your organization ineligible to apply for future Arts Commission grants.
All grant-related materials must be received by the Arizona Commission on the Arts by close of the business day on the deadline date. Without exception, organizations that neglect to submit required materials by the published deadlines will forfeit their current grant award and/or be ineligible for future funding.
