Painting Workshop with Claudio Dicochea
Join us for a workshop that will provide you with an understanding of paint as a material for artistic expression and painting as an activity that explores our sense of self and our sense of place. Through a set of different exercises, this workshop will cover the techniques, information, and skills necessary for building an ongoing studio practice. Including an understanding of pigments, blending and glazing, medium and surface drying time, gels, archival tips, mixed media, and more. Artists of all experience will learn about the versatility of painting as a contemporary discipline along with its potential for open and rewarding creative exploration.
Acompáñenos a un taller enfocado en la comprensión de la pintura como material para la expresión artística y la pintura como una actividad que explora nuestro sentido de ser y nuestro lugar en la comunidad. A través de una serie de diferentes ejercicios, este taller cubrirá las técnicas, información y habilidades necesarias para la construcción de una práctica artística en el estudio. Incluyendo la comprensión de los pigmentos, la mezcla y el tiempo de secado de la superficie de pintar, geles, tips para la preservación, técnicas mixtas, y mucho más. AZ ArtWorker Workshop with Liz Lerman
Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process: Introductory workshop
With an introduction by Julia Akerly and Allyson Yoder of [nueBOX]
Join Macarthur “Genius Grant” recipient Liz Lerman for an introductory workshop on her Critical Response Process (CRP), a facilitated structure for giving and getting feedback on artistic works in progress. Grounded in principles of meaning, inquiry, and dialogue, it is designed to leave the maker eager and motivated to get back to work on the project under consideration. This workshop will introduce the four steps of CRP and explore the values that support useful critique through conversation, participation, and reflection.
Participants in this introductory workshop will have priority registration privileges for a one-day CRP intensive presented by [nueBOX] in November.
Cost: $10

In October 2016, AZ ArtWorker will host a workshop and a binational performance led by visiting artist Yadira De La Riva in Douglas, Arizona. Participants will develop short dramatic works focused on reclaiming community narratives, some of which will be featured in a binational performance on October 22.

In October 2016, AZ ArtWorker will partner with Tohono O’odham Community College, Shining Soul, and Red Ink Magazine to present a workshop and a performance led by visiting artist Yadira De La Riva. Participants will develop short dramatic works focused on reclaiming community narratives, some of which will be featured in a performance on October 27.

Join Richard Montoya, co-founder of Chicano theatre group Culture Clash, for a writing and acting workshop. Participants will focus on the use of satire and humor to address social and culturally relevant content. This workshop is ideal for playwrights and actors whose work addresses identity and social justice.
The workshop will be introduced by Ricky Araiza, Artistic Director of Teatro Bravo.

Join us for a lecture with contemporary Mexican artist Betsabeé Romero, as part of her Phoenix residency April 3-10.
Betsabeé Romero lives and works in Mexico City. For over 15 years, her work has paid attention to issues of migration and mobility through the symbols and everyday rituals of the culture of global consumption, such as cars, tattoos and urban signage.
Romero has realized more than 30 individual exhibitions in México, the United States and Europe, and has participated in a large number of residencies and international biennials. Her work is part of important collections, including: The British Museum, Daros Collection in Switzerland, Phoenix Art Museum, Nelson & Atkins Nevada Museum of Art, World Bank in Washington D.C., Gelman (México), MOCA Los Angeles, and The Museum of Contemporary Art of Porto Alegre (Brazil). Betsabeé Romero is also renown for numerous monumental installations and interventions in urban communities, including East Los Angeles, Chicago, Mexico City, and Toulouse.
This program is organized by CALA Alliance and AZ ArtWorker, a program of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and presented in collaboration with Phoenix Art Museum.

Join us for the closing of “Para Un Muro Ensimismado,” Mexican contemporary artist Betsabeé Romero’s temporary art installation. During her Phoenix residency April 3-10, Romero collaborated with Arizona artists to create a site-specific project connecting global histories of migration and power.
