Arizona Arts Congress

Arizona Arts Congress, the annual advocacy day presented by the Arizona Citizens for the Arts, will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 on the Senate Lawn of the Arizona State Capitol, 1700 W. Washington.

Arts Congress is the one day each year that arts and culture advocates, patrons, educators, business people and voters gather to speak directly to Arizona legislators about the importance of support for arts and culture in our state.

Arizona Citizens for the Arts will provide training materials and talking points for meetings with legislators. For more information, visit http://azcitizensforthearts.org

Competitive Grantwriting Workshop for Artists

Join the Arizona Commission on the Arts at Raices Taller 222 in Tucson on Saturday, March 18, for a free workshop designed to help artists craft superior grant applications. Whether you’re an emerging artist just learning the ropes or a seasoned pro looking to polish your presentation, this workshop covers the fundamentals while offering an insiders perspective on what funders and review panelists are looking for in a grant application.  Using the Arts Commission’s Artist Research and Development Grant as a model, participants will learn the essential components of a strong application as they play the role of reviewers in a mock grant review panel.

AZ ArtWorker: Artist Talk: Betsabeé Romero

Join us for a lecture with contemporary Mexican artist Betsabeé Romero, as part of her Phoenix residency April 3-10.

Betsabeé Romero lives and works in Mexico City. For over 15 years, her work has paid attention to issues of migration and mobility through the symbols and everyday rituals of the culture of global consumption, such as cars, tattoos and urban signage.

Romero has realized more than 30 individual exhibitions in México, the United States and Europe, and has participated in a large number of residencies and international biennials. Her work is part of important collections, including: The British Museum, Daros Collection in Switzerland, Phoenix Art Museum, Nelson & Atkins Nevada Museum of Art, World Bank in Washington D.C., Gelman (México), MOCA Los Angeles, and The Museum of Contemporary Art of Porto Alegre (Brazil). Betsabeé Romero is also renown for numerous monumental installations and interventions in urban communities, including East Los Angeles, Chicago, Mexico City, and Toulouse.

This program is organized by CALA Alliance and AZ ArtWorker, a program of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and presented in collaboration with Phoenix Art Museum.

Support for substantive school/community partnerships that strengthen teaching and learning in arts education and/or arts integration in Arizona Title I schools.

The application period (for Grant Cycle: July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018) is now open.

The application deadline is 11:59pm Thursday, June 1, 2017.

To help potential applicants prepare to apply, the Arts Commission will host two online information sessions. These sessions are open to all and offered free of charge, but advance registration is required.
