Cafesito con Margarita Cabrera: A conversation over coffee and pan dulce.

Join us for a meet and greet with Margarita Cabrera, a Mexican-American artist whose objects and activities address timely issues related to border relations, labor practices and immigration. Margarita will talk about her latest project Space in Between, a collaboration with ASU Art Museum, Desert Botanical Gardens and various community organizations. The artist will also introduce the project Douglas Abre la Boca. Don’t miss it!

Acompáñenos a conocer y saludar a Margarita Cabrera, artista y activista mexico-americana cuyos objetos y actividades abordan temas actuales sobre las relaciones fronterizas, las prácticas laborales y la inmigración. Margarita hablará sobre su más reciente proyecto Space in Between, cuyo nombre se deriva de la palabra Nahuatl: Nepantla. El proyecto en una colaboración con el Museo de Arte de ASU, Desert Botanical Gardens y varias organizaciones comunitarias. Land Tracings: Durational Patchmaking with P.Nosa

As part of the Land Tracings exhibition, the Arizona Commission on the Arts will present an evening of durational patchmaking with P.Nosa.

With a portable sewing machine powered by a solar panel and a bicycle that generates electricity, Nosa tours the country, settling in public areas where he sets up his machine and asks people to describe a scenario in five words or less. He interprets these scenarios in the moment, sewing intricate designs onto a patch.

In June 2016, the Arts Commission will present an exhibition at Chartreuse, a contemporary art space on historic Grand Avenue in downtown Phoenix, featuring work by five members of the 2015 cohort of ARDG recipients.

Cafesito con Claudio Dicochea: A conversation over coffee and pan dulce.

Join us for a conversation with artist Claudio Dicochea. He will talk about the personal creative journey of artmaking as well as the social process of placing our work out in the world. Dicochea will present and share insight on his work as a means of exploring practical questions about the commitment, discipline, and passion necessary for a life in the arts. The conversation will focus also on the more social and professional aspects of artmaking, which includes the development of varied skills outside the studio to help us convey the importance of our work in a meaningful and successful manner. Through open discussion, we’ll share ways of developing our own unique artistic visions and of strengthening our social participation and effect as creative thinkers.

Acompáñenos a una conversación con el artista Claudio Dicochea. Él hablará sobre su trayectoria artística, así como el proceso social de colocar su trabajo en el mundo. Dicochea presentará y compartirá su visión sobre su trabajo como un medio para explorar preguntas prácticas sobre el compromiso, la disciplina y la pasión necesaria para una vida en las artes. Painting Workshop with Claudio Dicochea

Join us for a workshop that will provide you with an understanding of paint as a material for artistic expression and painting as an activity that explores our sense of self and our sense of place. Through a set of different exercises, this workshop will cover the techniques, information, and skills necessary for building an ongoing studio practice. Including an understanding of pigments, blending and glazing, medium and surface drying time, gels, archival tips, mixed media, and more. Artists of all experience will learn about the versatility of painting as a contemporary discipline along with its potential for open and rewarding creative exploration.

Acompáñenos a un taller enfocado en la comprensión de la pintura como material para la expresión artística y la pintura como una actividad que explora nuestro sentido de ser y nuestro lugar en la comunidad. A través de una serie de diferentes ejercicios, este taller cubrirá las técnicas, información y habilidades necesarias para la construcción de una práctica artística en el estudio. Incluyendo la comprensión de los pigmentos, la mezcla y el tiempo de secado de la superficie de pintar, geles, tips para la preservación, técnicas mixtas, y mucho más. With an introduction by Julia Akerly and Allyson Yoder of [nueBOX]

Join Macarthur “Genius Grant” recipient Liz Lerman for an introductory workshop on her Critical Response Process (CRP), a facilitated structure for giving and getting feedback on artistic works in progress. Grounded in principles of meaning, inquiry, and dialogue, it is designed to leave the maker eager and motivated to get back to work on the project under consideration. This workshop will introduce the four steps of CRP and explore the values that support useful critique through conversation, participation, and reflection.

Participants in this introductory workshop will have priority registration privileges for a one-day CRP intensive presented by [nueBOX] in November.

In October 2016, AZ ArtWorker will partner with Tohono O’odham Community College, Shining Soul, and Red Ink Magazine to present a workshop and a performance led by visiting artist Yadira De La Riva.
