Call for Teaching Artists:
The Teaching Artist Institute is a five-month training program that will introduce teaching artists to the variety of settings, programs, and partners that make up the creative aging field, and provide skills-building activities for participants to attain the specialized knowledge needed to work successfully with older adults.

Introduction to Creative Aging: Myths of Aging and the Power of the Arts
Join us to learn about the myths of aging and how arts engagement benefits older adults.
- Jorge Merced, Associate Artistic Director of Pregones Theater, will provide a keynote on Creative Aging and an interactive exploration of the different approaches used across the continuum of care.
- Dr. Walter Nieri, Director of The Center for Health Aging at Banner Sun Health Research Institute, will share current research on healthy aging and the factors that contribute to quality of life.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in the vital relationship between the arts and quality of life for older adults, including aging or healthcare service organization staff, teaching artists, and arts organization staff.
This event is free, but registration is required. Registration closes Tuesday, January 12, 2016.
This AZ Creative Aging event is presented at no cost to attendees thanks to the generous support of Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust.
The first of several online and in-person information sessions for potential applicants to the Festival and Community Investment Grant programs will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 3:30pm. If you would like to participate in this live, web-based information session, please click here to fill out the form and we will email you information on how to participate.
Further sessions, both online and in-person, will be announced shortly.
Presented in partnership with VSA Arizona and the Tubac Center of the Arts, the Arts Commission is offering two workshops on ADA compliance with Eileen Bagnall, Executive Director of VSA Arizona and ADA policy expert.
Two sessions will be offered:
1:00pm – ADA Compliance: Know the Basics
An introduction to the basic concepts, principles and considerations of ADA compliance, ideal for individuals new to the field.
3:00pm – Beyond Compliance: Advancing ADA Practices
A more advanced exploration of best practices and next steps to move your organization to the next level of inclusivity. This session builds on the previous session, but may be attended on its own by those already familiar with the basics.
Each session is $6.00, or attend both for only $10.00.
