Arizona Commission on the Arts Deputy Director Elected to Board of Grantmakers in the Arts

Biennial Arts Education Conference to be held in Phoenix on October 24
The 2016 Joint Arts Education Conference (JAEC) will take place on Monday, October 24, at Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix. Designed to bring together Arizona’s arts education community for a full day of professional development, this year’s JAEC theme is Connect and Respond.
State of Arizona Increases Investment in the Arts, Awards $2,266,000 in Grants Statewide
On July 6, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, an agency of the State of Arizona, announced 239 grants to Arizona nonprofit arts organizations, local arts agencies, schools and community organizations, an aggregate investment of $2,266,000, representing a more than 100% increase to total funding awarded during last year’s first grantmaking cycle.

Five Arizona artists will be featured in “Land Tracings,” a group exhibition presented by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, an agency of the State of Arizona. The featured artists are all recipients of the Arts Commission’s Artist Research and Development Grant.
FY2017 State Budget Includes Additional $1.5 Million for the Arts
The $9.6 billion fiscal year 2017 budget signed today by Governor Doug Ducey includes a $1.5 million appropriation to the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The additional funding represents a 50% increase over the 49-year-old state agency’s current fiscal year budget.

Hunter Hazelton, a senior at Betty Fairfax High School in Laveen, will represent Arizona at the 11th Annual Poetry Out Loud national finals competition in Washington, D.C., May 3-4, 2016.
Arizona High School Student to Compete in National Poetry Recitation Competition
Hunter Hazelton, a senior at Betty Fairfax High School in Laveen, Arizona, was named 2016 Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Champion at the state finals competition held on March 11, 2016 at the downtown Phoenix studios of Arizona PBS. As State Champion, Hazleton will represent Arizona at the 11th annual Poetry Out Loud National Finals competition in Washington, D.C., in May.
