2016 Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Finals on Arizona PBS

On March 11, 2016, 10 high school students from all across the state stepped on to the stage and into the spotlight to recite poems for a live audience and Arizona PBS’s TV cameras. On Friday, April 15, at 9 pm, Arizona PBS HD will broadcast a half-hour special featuring highlights from the competition.

Hunter Hazelton, a senior at Betty Fairfax High School in Laveen, Arizona, was named 2016 Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Champion at the state finals competition held on March 11, 2016 at the downtown Phoenix studios of Arizona PBS.

On Friday, March 11, 2016, ten Arizona high school students will compete for the title of Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Champion and the opportunity to represent the Arizona at the national finals in Washington, D.C. in April. For the first time since 2013, the state finals event will be held at the downtown Phoenix studios of Arizona PBS.

Poetry Out Loud Regional Competions

Each year, thousands of students across the state compete in Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation competition. This month, each participating school will send their champion to one of three regional competitions to determine which 9 students will vie for the title of state champion.
