Looking for the perfect holiday gift? Consider the gift of Arizona arts! From one-of-a-kind works of art to online art classes, books by Arizona writers, to records by local musicians, Arizona’s arts sector has something for everyone on your list! In many cases, purchases can be made online and some artists and vendors even offer wrapping and shipping options, so you can shop and ship while physical distancing. And the best part is—shopping your local arts scene is also a gift to your community, providing much needed support to a sector that’s been particularly hard hit by the pandemic.

Through the #GiveAZArts social media campaign, let’s remind friends and neighbors who will engage in gift-giving as a part of their holiday traditions this year to think about ways they can support Arizona arts organizations, arts-based businesses, and the artists at the center of all of the work.

#GiveAZArts graphics contain universal tips for supporting the arts in Arizona this holiday season. Our hope is that artists, organizations, and businesses will post the graphics and customize them as they share out.

For example, an artist could take Tip 1 and post it, along with a message: “My online shop is full of new prints and open for business. Want an original? Send me a DM!” along with the #GiveAZArts hashtag.

Or a museum shop could share Tip 3 alongside a message saying: “Visit us at the Sample Museum Shop for awesome local jewelry and art prints. We can even wrap and ship for you!”

We hope you’ll join this effort to encourage Arizonans to look to their local arts community for holiday gift giving this year.

TIp #1: Shop Local Artists

With a little savvy searching online, you can access a vast marketplace of Arizona artists!

  • Search Google for artist boutiques and galleries in your area.
  • Filter your Etsy search by location to find artisans near you.
  • On Instagram, you can find local artists through hashtags like #azartist and #tucsonartist.

Tip #2: Get “Class”y

Not sure what watercolor painting to buy for your picky aunt? Give her the gift of a watercolor class and she can paint her own!

Check your local arts center for classes and workshops in drawing, ceramics, hip-hop dance, guitar, and anything else you can imagine! Many classes are even offered outdoors and online.

Tip #3: Exit through the gift shop

The gift shops of Arizona’s museums and cultural centers, as well as artist-centered business across the state, are great places to find unique gifts by local artists, from one-of-a-kind jewelry to art prints to CDs by local musicians.

Ask about shopping options: many shops offer curbside pickup, wrapping and shipping, and even local delivery!

Tip # 4: Give a Donation

What do you buy the person who has everything? Why not a donation in their name to an organization serving their community?

Throughout the state, nonprofit arts organizations enrich their communities in myriad ways. Even a small monetary gift can make a big impact.

And it’s tax deductable!

Tip #5: Get literary

Arizona has a large and thriving literary arts community, including world-class poets, novelists, and storytellers. Looking for recommendations?
