On November 4, 2015, AZ ArtWorker presented a workshop with actor and playwright Anu Yadav in Phoenix. At this intimate workshop, participants learned about theatre as a tool for community organizing and used techniques based on Theatre of the Oppressed to explore how personal story can be used to engage social issues.

Anu Yadav

Anu Yadav is a critically-acclaimed actor, writer and theatre-based educator dedicated to telling the stories of people pushed to the margins of public discourse. As a solo performer, Anu shapeshifts into characters from everyday life with both humor and drama. Her devised theatre work sparks a powerful forum for people to reflect and listen to each other’s stories across social and economic divides. Anu is currently touring her newest play, Meena’s Dream.

Guest Speaker: Marivel Danielson

Marivel Danielson is a Phoenix-based artist and scholar whose work focues on Chicana/Latina cultural production, solo performance and gender studies. She is Associate Professor of Literature and Cultural Studies in the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University.
