Since 2014\, the Arizona Commission on the Art s has partnered with the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA) to serve as the state’s official folk arts partner.\nSFA is the first dedicated folklife organization along the US-Mexico border corridor focused solely on uplifti ng\, supporting\, and presenting the work of traditional artists year-roun d. Their mission is to build more equitable and vibrant communities by cel ebrating the everyday expressions of culture\, heritage and diversity in t he Greater Southwest.\nMaster-Apprentice Artist Award\nThese awards provid e direct support for master traditional artists living in Arizona to pass on art\, culture\, and heritage practices to apprentice learners through t he annual SFA Master-Apprentice Award. The award is made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arizona Commission on the Arts. \nThe Master-Apprentice Artist supports a master artist or tradition beare r to work with a qualified apprentice (or group of apprentices) to engage in a teaching-learning relationship that includes one-on-one mentorship an d hands-on experience. Our highest priority is to support apprentices to l earn from master artists within their own cultural traditions. Since 2014\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts has partnered with the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA) to serve as the state’s of ficial folk arts partner.
\nSFA is the first dedicated folklife orga nization along the US-Mexico border corridor focused solely on uplifting\, supporting\, and presenting the work of traditional artists year-round. T heir mission is to build more equitable and vibrant communities by celebra ting the everyday expressions of culture\, heritage and diversity in the G reater Southwest.
\nThese a wards provide direct support for master traditional artists living in Ariz ona to pass on art\, culture\, and heritage practices to apprentice learne rs through the annual SFA Master-Apprentice Award. The award is made possi ble in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arizona Commission on the Arts.
\nThe Master-Apprentice Artist supports a master artist or tradition bearer to work with a qualified apprentice (or group of appr entices) to engage in a teaching-learning relationship that includes one-o n-one mentorship and hands-on experience. Our highest priority is to suppo rt apprentices to learn from master artists within their own cultural trad itions. Funds can be used to help cover artist fees\, offset costs of raw materials\, and support any travel essential to the exchange. \nThis grant is available to Arizona artists working in any discipline. Applicants must be individuals and may submit only one ap plication per year. Organizations are not eligible to apply. At the time a n application is submitted\, and the grant is awarded\, an applicant must be:

All applications are subject to a public review process. First\, Arts Commission staff revi ew each application for completeness and eligibility. Applications that ar e incomplete or submitted after the due date are considered ineligible for panel review and funding.
\nEligible applications are then evaluate d by independent review panels made up of arts learning specialists from c ommunities throughout the state. They evaluate each application on its own merits and solely on the basis of the published evaluation criteria.
\nPanelists first review applications individually. They then meet as a body to discuss the applications and finalize assessment as a group. Arts lea rning projects include specific objectives\, outcomes and methods of evalu ation that are well defined and relevant for the learners involved.

\nIndividual teaching artists or arts organizations may be li sted as partners on a maximum of three (3) funded arts learning grant appl ications (both Lifelong Arts Engagement and Youth Arts Engagement) in a gi ven fiscal year. If the number of applications on which a given individual teaching artist or arts organization is listed as a partner in a single f unding cycle exceeds the total number that may be funded for that fiscal y ear\, they will be asked to advise the Arts Commission on which applicatio n(s) will be withdrawn from consideration. The Arts Commission requests th at prospective applicants consider this restriction before applying.
\nTeaching artists are encouraged to seek out partnerships with eligible organizations\, schools\, or units of government. The entity you partner w ith will then serve as the direct applicant. When building a partnership w ith an organization\, school\, or unit of government\, make sure they are not applying to the Youth Arts Engagement Grant for a different project or to another grant program through the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

\nDataArts’ Cultural D ata Profile (CDP) is a free and secure online survey that collects financi al and programmatic data from nonprofit arts\, culture\, and humanities or ganizations. Organizations can then produce a variety of reports based on this data\, including the DataArts Funder Report submitte d with the CCG application.

\nObtain a Fiscal Sponsor Letter of Agreement (if app licable)
\nUnincorporated organizations applying with a fis cal sponsor will need to upload a Fiscal Sponsor Letter of Agreement. This official letter\, signed by authorizing officials from both the applicant organization and the fiscal sponsor\, must state that the fiscal sponsor agrees to receive grant funds on behalf of the applicant\, deliver them to the applicant\, and maintain appropriate financial records. Additionally\ , the applicant should be prepared to provide a fiscal sponsor contact and indicate the fiscal sponsor’s administrative fee. (The fiscal sponsor’s a dministrative fee is the percentage of any potential grant funding that wo uld be retained by the fiscal sponsor to cover administrative costs associ ated with their sponsorship.)

They eval uate each application on its own merits and solely on the basis of the pub lished evaluation criteria.
