Public Meeting Notice
It is the public policy of this state that meetings of public bodies be conducted openly and that notices and agendas be provided for such meetings which contain such information as is reasonably necessary to inform the public of the matters to be discussed or decided. Pursuant to A.R.S. § 34-431.02, all public bodies are required to maintain a Notice of Public Meeting section on their website. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits the Arizona Commission on the Arts from discrimination on the basis of disability. Administered by the Arizona Commission on the Arts’ AZ Youth Arts Council, the Creative Youth Grant is a funding opportunity for young artists, arts organizations, collaboratives, youth arts councils or clubs that are majority youth-led (20 years-old and under). Eligible applicants can apply in one of two categories:
- Individual: Funding for individual young artists.
- Organization/School: Funding for schools, arts organizations, collaboratives, youth arts councils or clubs.
What is it For?
Individuals
To support young artists as they develop new skills or advance their artistic practice outside the traditional school day. This may include paying for lessons, attending a workshop, or paying for supplies and equipment.
Organizations
For projects that support young people’s stories and ideas through creative expression. This may include youth led arts projects, workshops, or events that happen outside the traditional school day.
Individuals
- Arizona artists under the age of 20 years-old.
- For activities taking place January 1 – June 30, 2022.
Organizations
- Project is majority youth-led. An adult’s role is as an ally or accomplice supporting and ensuring youth leadership and shared decision making.
- Project provides an artistic experience for the direct benefit of young people under the age of 20 in Arizona.
- For projects taking place through January 1 – June 30, 2022.
- Applicant organizations must be Arizona nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status, schools/ districts, or units of government who are majority youth-led (20 years-old and under). This may include collaboratives, youth arts councils or clubs. Unincorporated organizations who are otherwise eligible, may apply with a nonprofit fiscal sponsor.
Award Amount
Individuals
Individuals can request between $250 and $750, based on eligible expenses.
Organizations
Applicants can request the following flat grant amounts: $500, $1,000, $1,500.
Eligible Expenses
Grant funds may be used for any of the following (this list is not comprehensive):
Individuals
- Fees for private lessons or workshops
- Materials or supplies related to your artistic practice
- Equipment, instruments or technology related to your artistic practice
- Travel costs
- Documentation
Organizations
- Artist, consultant, and other fees
- Materials or supplies
- Travel costs
- Equipment or technology which directly support the project activities
- Space/rental fees
- Documentation

The Application
Narrative
Answer each of these questions. You can type up your proposal narrative (up to 1,000 words), or you can upload it in a video or audio recording (no more than 8 minutes in length).
If you share your proposal narrative in a video or audio recording keep it simple and to the point. The recording should be just you, describing your proposal and answering the questions listed above. Please do not include edits of your work samples or special effects. Production quality of this recording will not be considered in your review. Just make sure we can hear and understand you and keep editing and post-production embellishment to a minimum.
Individuals
- Describe how you will use the grant funds. What is this grant going to make possible?
- Tell us about your artistic practice and why these activities or purchases are appropriate and important to your work as a young artist.
- Provide a timeline that details the proposed activities. All project activities must be completed by June 30, 2022.
Organizations
- Provide a detailed description of your proposed project. What do you hope the project will achieve?
- Who are the collaborators involved in this project? What do they bring to the table?
- What does youth-led look like in this project? How will the collaborators ensure shared power and decision making?
- Who does this project serve and why is it important to that community?
- Describe the timeline for the activities that will take place. All project activities must be completed by June 30, 2022.

Individuals
- Expenses: List all expenses related to your proposal and provide a short explanation of the expense.
- Grant Amount Requested: Indicate the grant amount you are requesting, based on eligible expenses, between $250 and $750.
- Budget Narrative: Use this space to bring your project budget to life, as if you were explaining it to the grant review panel.
Organizations
- Project Expenses: List all project expenses and provide a short explanation of the expense.
