Tempe is one or nine communities represented in the inaugural cohort of the AZ Creative Communities Institute (AZCCI). A program of Arizona Commission on the Arts and ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, with guidance from Southwest Folklife Alliance, AZCCI offers small teams, made up of diverse members of Arizona communities, a unique opportunity to explore the many ways creativity can be put to work for positive community impact.

About Tempe

“Tempe is filled with arts, activities, education and opportunity. The university provides the intelligence hub but it is the diversity of its residents, the local businesses, the enlightened politicians, the artists and the individuals who choose to live near this world class university that are the cultural decision makers and heart of this community.”

Project

Tempe Playlist: Saturn Sessions is a locally-inspired audio project that will capture and celebrate the talents of local creatives (musicians, poets, spoken word artists, emcees, singers and storytellers) who live, work and/or study within the 85283 and 85284 zip codes. The objective of this project is to highlight the diverse sounds of these artists and connect them to a broader audience. Selected artists will also have the opportunity to be commissioned for the Saturn Sessions live performances at local destinations. The selected recordings will be compiled into a digital playlist that will be available online and visually marketed on Orbit Saturn buses.
