The Virtual Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting in the preparation and teaching of virtual developmentally-appropriate STEAM based camp programs for children in grades 2-10. During camp sessions, the Virtual Camp Counselor will teach virtual summer camp curriculum via ZOOM for 1 hour daily. The remainder of the day will be spent preparing and organizing the teaching area at Taliesin West, testing technology for the day’s lesson, assisting with the concurrent on site day camp activities as needed, and virtually answering questions from campers and parents. Additionally, the Virtual Camp Counselor may be a substitute on-site counselor for on site camp as needed. The Virtual Camp Counselor is expected to work from Taliesin West.

In an initial meeting with Taliesin West Education staff, the Virtual Camp Counselor will be introduced to the respective camp curricula and become familiar with camp outline, goals, timeline, and tasks.

NOTE: This is a part-time seasonal position for an average of 25 hours per week. Candidates MUST be available throughout the summer camp season which runs Mondays-Fridays from May 24-August 13, 2021.

Essential Functions:

• Teaching virtual camp lessons and activities using pre-written curriculum.

• Assisting with the delivery of creative, interactive, age-appropriate learning experiences.

• Providing responsible care and leadership for camp participants in a digital environment.

• Maintaining weekly rosters for virtual camp and ensuring virtual campers receive any digital hand-outs in a prompt and organized manner.

• Assisting with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and other classroom supplies/equipment for on-site camp, which runs concurrently.

• Assisting with distributing and cleaning up snacks and lunches for onsite camp.

• Attending mandatory camp meetings

• Interacting with parents and caregivers in a positive, helpful manner

• Delivering methods for feedback from camps to help evaluates program success

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates or Bachelors Degree, or enrollment in a degree-granting program focused in a STEAM field including architecture, education, or a related field required

• Experience working with children required

• Must have previous experience in formal and informal education settings with children, preferably obtained in classrooms, science museums, zoos, or summer camp programs

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including active listening ability while interacting with diverse audiences including parents, children, fellow staff, volunteers, and the general public; ability to interpret and provide clear instructions, specifications, etc.within a teaching environment

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office software and ZOOM technologies; experience with Google Classroom software preferred.

• Adherence to safety and infection control practices and policies at all times

• Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to multitask/re-prioritize elements of assignments or projects change.

• CPR/First Aid Certification preferred, or ability to complete certification coursework within initial training period on-the-job.

• Must be punctual, dependable, flexible and adaptable; note requirement for seasonal schedule aboveMaintain an upbeat, positive attitude while working collaboratively and executing a variety of tasks crucial to efficient operations.
