Arizona Broadway Theatre is now accepting applications for a full-time scenic carpenter to join our team.
Typical Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm. Occasional weekend calls, depending on need. Occasional nights for production strike and load-in periods. There is the possibility of overtime with this position.
Hourly Rate: $15.00 – $17.00 per hour depending on experience/qualifications.
General Functions: Arizona Broadway Theatre is looking for full-time scenic carpenters who will construct, erect, install, and repair theatrical structures for assigned shows using a variety of carpentry hand and power tools.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine materials required and dimensions of structure to be fabricated.
•Builds, erects, and installs all scenic components using a variety of carpentry hand and power tools. Uses hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins or glue to make framework or props.
•Performs repairs to scenery as directed.
•Performs millwork, cabinetry, and finish carpentry by setting up and operating power tools and machinery to size, plane, joint, and mold lumber to desired dimensions. Cuts bevel, bead or molding patterns. Cuts and installs custom moldings and trim.
•Performs welding on stage props and scenery.
•Assist with load-in of scenic elements including rigging and overhead scenery.
•Assist with strike of scenic elements.
•Assure all scenery structures are of highest construction and safe.
Minimum Requirements:
•High School Diploma or GED; Additional training in Technical Theatre or trades is desirable.
•Two years carpentry experience; Theatrical carpentry experience is preferred, but not required.
•Welding experience preferred, but not required. Skill can be taught on the job.
