Phoenix Children’s Chorus will be interviewing for a high school choral conducting position, which will begin July 2018. The Phoenix Children’s Chorus is a dynamic and rapidly expanding organization comprised of nearly 400 students in1st – 12th grade in seven different ensembles. This is a part-time position involving 3 hours of weekly rehearsal time and requisite preparation time. The rehearsal season normally extends from mid-August through May. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings and six Saturdays per year at the Phoenix Center for the Arts. A camp is held in Prescott, Arizona for three days in August. Students learn music literacy, healthy vocal technique, and performance skills. The Chorus produces five concerts per year and the advanced ensembles tour each summer. Qualified candidates will hold a degree in Choral Conducting or Choral Music Education, a masters degree in music or education, have choral conducting and teaching experience, possess dynamic rehearsal skills, a good knowledge of Kodaly methodology and vocal pedagogy, and the ability to interact positively with students, parents, and the public. After the interview process, the interview committee will select finalists who will be asked to work with one of the high school choirs and a final decision will be made. Pay is commensurate with experience.
