Gallery Attendant – Part-time / Entry Leve

The West Valley Arts (WVA) Council is looking for a creative, extremely organized, and team-oriented individual to work with WVA staff and volunteers. The Gallery Attendant will assist the Gallery Director in coordinating and implementing various areas of art exhibitions, special events, and programing held at the Arts HQ Gallery and City of Surprise City Hall.

This position is a part-time position for afternoon and weekend hours.

Essential Functions:

Exhibitions, Events & Programing

-Assist with art calls, scheduling, and installation of rotating art exhibits.
-Perform gallery/exhibit maintenance between exhibitions including patching and painting, dusting, cleaning.
-Arrange the return and acceptance of artwork and retail merchandise (i.e. call, email, and assist artists).
-Create information labels and signage for exhibits.
-Assist with setting up and tearing down of exhibit receptions and special events.
-Data entry.
-Assist and follow up on exhibit proposals, gallery rentals, artists and art groups inquiries.

Retail/Customer Service

-Maintain retail area and inventory, including artist retail consignment contracts, merchandise, and sales.
-Support artists, teachers, and affiliates with memberships and online profiles and other inquiries.
-Perform daily operations of gallery retail stores, including sales and display.
-Assist with online gallery exhibitions and ecommerce with the IT team.
-Assist in providing input on initiatives for expanding revenue streams.


-Assist with PR and social media campaigns/postings promoting the gallery and its artists.
-Work with marketing team to produce brochures and marketing materials for the Arts HQ gallery and its events.

Additional Duties

-Performing other duties as assigned.
-Adhere to all gallery administration manuals and protocols.

Abilities & Skills:

-Have a genuine enthusiasm for all modes of art (visual, musical, written, spoken).
-Ability to organize exhibitions or manage multiple projects.
-Knowledge of best practices in art gallery operations, exhibit curation and installation, and records management.
-Excellent English communication skills, oral and written.
-Comfortable with public speaking and being in a customer-facing environment.
-Prior experience in retail and providing excellent customer service.
-Adept with using and/or learning technology (computers, databases, software).
-Experience with web-based art platforms including website and social media operations.
-Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated in order to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a deadline-driven, sometimes fast-paced environment.
-Adept at creative problem-solving, anticipating and resolving issues quickly and independently.
-Familiar with rules and regulations pertaining to non-profit foundations preferable.

Minimum Qualifications:

-High school diploma or equivalent AND
-Two to three years experience in retail or gallery operations; OR
-Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and education which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Employment Classification: Non-exempt, part-time (10-15 hours)
