The Arizona Commission on the Arts is pleased to report that the Governor’s proposed balanced budget for FY2021 includes $2 million to fund grants in support of arts and arts education programs across the state.
The board and staff of the Arts Commission are grateful to Governor Ducey for his support of the arts and those who contribute so much to the beauty, vitality, and identity of Arizona communities.
In his State of the State address earlier this week, Governor Ducey outlined his vision, reflective of Arizonans’ unique approach to everything they do. The Arizona Way, as he called it, is resourceful, hard-working, and innovative. It celebrates diversity and self-determination while ensuring space and opportunity for all to live their best life. “We believe in solving the problems of today, so future generations won’t have to,” said Governor Ducey. “When we put others first—and work together—we can make a difference.”
To us, these qualities are well-represented in Arizona’s arts sector, and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute some of our best assets to the Governor’s vision for our state.
The Governor’s budget proposal is the first step in the budget-development process. Over the coming weeks, Arizona legislators will craft their proposals for the State’s FY2021 budget, and several legislative leaders have expressed interest in building on the Governor’s position that the arts are a worthy investment.
