On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed into law the American Rescue Plan, an expansive $1.9 trillion stimulus package intended to deliver federal relief throughout the nation as it enters the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are pleased to report that the package includes provisions that direct vital support to the nation’s arts sector.
Aliyah Chutkan, a junior at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, is Arizona’s 2021 Poetry Out Loud state champion. Next month, Chutkah will compete against high school students representing each US state and territory for the title of National Champion.
Research-a-palooza is a capacity-building program for teaching artists, arts organizations, and health/aging organizations with a serious and committed interest in strengthening existing Creative Aging programs through research and development efforts.
“The newly updated Arts Education Data Project is an incredible tool that helps highlight programs and classes that schools offer to students across our state,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman.
On Wednesday, February 24, the Arizona House of Representatives passed House Bill 2755 with strong bipartisan support. This bill calls for a $5,000,000 appropriation to the Arizona Commission on the Arts for Fiscal Year 2022, supporting statewide arts sector investments at a time when the need has never been greater.
“The Arts Commission has decided not to open organizational applications until we have more visibility into the amount and type of funding that will be available for grantmaking.”
Eligible applicants may qualify for SVO Grants equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue, with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. $2 billion is reserved for eligible applications with up to 50 full-time employees.
