To kickstart the events leading up to our spring exhibition Sorry for the Mess, the University Art Museum at New Mexico State University is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Plant Making Workshop with artist Justin Favela live with Zoom on Thursday, December 3rd, 6:00 PM.

During the workshop, Justin Favela will teach community members and children how to create piñata-style paper sculptures for a desert garden that will be integrated into Sorry for the Mess. This live interactive event will also be recorded and posted on the UAM website for individuals to access after the workshop. After the workshop, the UAM will accept sculptures dropped off at the museum during open hours from December 3rd, 2020 – January 6th, 2021; sculptures will be included in Sorry for the Mess, January 21- March 7, 20201. Community members can pick up their “artist plants” to take home after the exhibition.

Prior to the event, be sure to pick up supplies for the workshop at the UAM on November 21st, 12:00-4:00 PM. These materials can also be purchased/sourced if you cannot access our kits. Here is a list of the materials you will need to take part in the workshop from home: Card stock (2-4 sheets, preferably shades of green), brown tissue paper, scissors, cardboard (for plant pots, recycled plastic cups, bottles, or fruit containers will also work), glue (sticks or bottles) and stapler. Extra materials/alternative materials: pipe cleaners, hot glue, crayons, markers, and paint.
