Home Of The Gilbert Historical Museum, in partnership with Fry’s Food Stores, a division of the Kroger Company, will commission professional artists to create indoor artwork for two new Fry’s Food stores in 2020.
This opportunity is open to professional artists in the East Valley/Phoenix Metro area with the ability to produce exemplary large-scale art. This is a “work for hire” with Kroger owning all rights to the work. The artwork will be prominently displayed on a wall inside the store as part of the Kroger Company’s commitment to involving artists in beautifying new stores in Arizona. The artwork will be expected to create an uplifting experience in the stores, create a space that encourages community gathering, and celebrates the spirit of the community and the unique identity of the neighborhood and its surroundings. The artwork will be mounted on panels of durable material that can be attached to the wall. One piece of art will be over bench seating and should be 11 feet wide by 5 feet high. The second piece will be on a wall near a community table and should be 12 feet wide by 6 feet high.
On December 6, 2019 up to six artists from the applicant pool will be selected to prepare a design/drawing and will be paid $300 for their proposals. These semi-finalists must submit a design/drawing by January 2, 2020. Two finalists will be chosen on January 22, 2020 and awarded a commission of $9000 each (one per project). This amount includes all artist fees, the cost of the design, including fabrication and installation, transportation and insurance costs to deliver said artwork to the new Fry’s Food Stores, one by April 8, 2020 and one by June 24, 2020.
