What is Tempe Playlist: Saturn Sessions
Tempe Playlist: Saturn Sessions is a locally-inspired audio project that will capture and celebrate the talents of local creatives (musicians, poets, spoken word artists, emcees, singers and storytellers) who live, work and/or study within the 85283 and 85284 zip codes. The objective of this project is to highlight the diverse sounds of these artists and connect them to a broader audience. Selected artists will also have the opportunity to be commissioned for the Saturn Sessions live performances at local destinations. The selected recordings will be compiled into a digital playlist that will be available online and visually marketed on Orbit Saturn buses.
Tempe Playlist was chosen as the creative connector for the community for several reasons:
To highlight the sounds from local creatives who live, work and/or study in the specified area of Tempe.
To give local creatives a platform to tell their story and introduce themselves to their community.
In the spirit of Orbit, to provide a free, locally-infused playlist that is available to everyone.
The Saturn route was also chosen for several reasons:
It travels within the two zip codes that are a focus for arts activation.
To serve as a connection between an area of Tempe that is known for the arts and an area of Tempe that, historically, has had less arts exposure.
It is a free service, accessible to all Tempeans.
