“Heartbreakers” show at the Warehouse 1005 Studio and Gallery: OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS

The title for the show is “Heartbreakers.” The theme is artwork centered around celebrating the life of Tom Petty and so many other pop culture icons that we have lost early as a result of the opioid epidemic in America. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Substance Abuse is closely connected to mental health. Subject matter is open to artist interpretation. Email any questions regarding submissions to: Jeremy.DeJong@azpsa.org.

Opioid Statistics
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse:

1. The U.S. opioid epidemic is continuing, and drug overdose deaths nearly tripled during 1999–2014. Among 47,055 drug overdose deaths that occurred in 2014 in the United States, 28,647 (60.9%) involved an opioid.

2. Every day, more than 90 Americans die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl—is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare.

3. Every 25 minutes, a baby is born suffering from opioid withdrawal.
