On January 8, 2011, U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and eighteen others were shot during a constituent meeting in Tucson. Six people died, including federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll; Gabe Zimmerman, one of Rep. Giffords’ staffers; and nine-year-old Christina-Taylor Green. In an Arizona Republic Op-Ed published on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy, Arizona’s Poet Laureate Alberto Álvaro Ríos offered a poem titled “Five Years Later.”
