The Arizona Commission on the Arts invites Arizona high schools to participate in the 2015-2016 Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, a free national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Poetry Out Loud encourages youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance while mastering public speaking skills, building self-confidence and learning about literary heritage.

Nogales High School Student to Represent Arizona in National Poetry Recitation Competition
Out of over 11,000 Arizona high school competitors from 47 participating schools, Zaskia Villa, a senior at Nogales High School in Nogales, Arizona, was selected as the Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Champion at the state finals event held on March 12, 2015 at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix. As State Champion, Villa will represent Arizona at the 10th annual Poetry Out Loud National Finals competition in Washington, D.C., in April.
Arizona High School Students to Compete at State Finals of National Poetry Recitation Contest
The Arizona Commission on the Arts will present the 10th Annual Arizona Poetry Out Loud state finals competition at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Nine high school students from throughout the state will compete in the poetry recitation contest for an opportunity to represent Arizona at the 10th Annual Poetry Out Loud National Finals in Washington, D.C.
Show Low Playwright Appointed to the Arizona Commission on the Arts
Show Low resident Lisa Jayne has been appointed to the governing board of the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Jayne will replace Dr. Robert Breunig of Flagstaff who completed his second 3-year term as a Commissioner in July 2014.
Tucson Poet Logan Phillips to read from new poetry collection at book release event in Phoenix
The Arizona Commission on the Arts and the ASU School of Theatre and Film’s Performance in the Borderlands will present an evening of poetry and performance commemorating the release of Sonoran Strange, a book-length poetry collection by Tucson poet Logan Phillips, on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. The event is sponsored by AZ Humanities.

Arts Commission Awards Artist Research and Development Grants to 13 Arizona Artists
On December 29, 2014, the Arizona Commission on the Arts announced the recipients of Artist Research and Development Grants for Fiscal Year 2015. This highly-competitive grant program awards funding to Arizona artists practicing in a variety of artistic disciplines in support of research and development leading to the creation of new works of art. This year, 13 of 95 applicants received up to $5,000 in funding.

Report: Access to Arts Education in Arizona Has Increased but Improvement is Needed
An update to a 2010 census on access to arts education in Arizona schools reports that while the number of students without access to any arts education has declined, more than 115,000 students still lack access to arts instruction by highly qualified arts teachers.
