National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) - Dedicated to
empowering the arts for America's future, NFAA's mission is to identify
emerging artists and assist them at critical junctures in their educational
and professional development, and to raise the appreciation for, and support
of, the arts in American society. NFAA is a publicly supported nonprofit,
non-governmental 501(c)(3) organization with headquarters in Miami, Florida
founded in 1981. All awards are funded through philanthropy.
NFAA's Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS) program identifies high
school senior aged artists in the performing, literary and visual arts. ARTS
is the nation's only scholarship for high school seniors in ALL art forms. It
is NOT a competition. Students are judged against a standard of excellence for
their age group within their artistic discipline. They are not judged against
each other. Students chosen to participate are brought to Miami for an
all-expenses paid week of master classes, showcase performances, exhibitions,
interdisciplinary activities, enrichment programs and interviews, as well as
final, live auditions.
NFAA is the exclusive nominating agency for the Presidential Scholars in the
Arts. It offers ARTS alumni an Alumni Career grant and additional
opportunities with internships at Sundance Theatre Laboratory and the Utah
Shakespeare Festival. NFAA also supports professional and emerging artists
through career development programs, including its Fellowships in Visual Arts
and NFAA Astral Career Grants.
