CATEGORIES;LANGUAGE=en-US:Agency\,Individual Artist CONTACT: DESCRIPTION:Through the State Partnership Grant\, the National Endowment for the Arts provides state arts agencies with support for stable\, profe ssionally-directed programs that are responsive to a state’s diverse folk and traditional arts heritage. Since 2014\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts has partnered with the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA) to serve as the state’s official folk arts partner.
\nSFA is the fi rst dedicated folklife organization along the US-Mexico border corridor fo cused solely on uplifting\, supporting\, and presenting the work of tradit ional artists year-round. Their mission is to build more equitable and vib rant communities by celebrating the everyday expressions of culture\, heri tage and diversity in the Greater Southwest.
\nThese awards provide direct support for master traditi onal artists living in Arizona to pass on art\, culture\, and heritage pra ctices to apprentice learners through the annual SFA Master-Apprentice Awa rd. The award is made possible in part by the National Endowment for the A rts and Arizona Commission on the Arts.
\nThe Master-Apprentice Arti st supports a master artist or tradition bearer to work with a qualified a pprentice (or group of apprentices) to engage in a teaching-learning relat ionship that includes one-on-one mentorship and hands-on experience. Our h ighest priority is to support apprentices to learn from master artists wit hin their own cultural traditions. Funds can be used to help cover artist fees\, offset costs of raw materials\, and support any travel essential to the exchange. Traditional artists & culture bearers receive a $5\,000\; a pprentices receive $500.
\nVisit the SFA website for more inform ation.

\n< p>*An unincorporated organization without tax-exempt status may apply thro ugh a nonprofit fiscal sponsor.\nAn or ganization may submit only one application per fiscal year.
\nAcross grant programs\, the Arts Commission limits the number of applications th at may be submitted by a given organization or unit of government to one ( 1) application per funding period (July 1 – June 30 of the following year) . While an organization or unit of government may be eligible for more tha n one grant program\, they may only apply for one of them in a given fundi ng period. (See FAQ #8 below for more information.)
\nIndividual teaching artists or a rts organizations may be listed as partners on a maximum of three (3) fund ed arts learning grant applications (both Lifelong Arts Engagement and You th Arts Engagement) in a given fiscal year. If the number of applications on which a given individual teaching artist or arts organization is listed as a partner in a single funding cycle exceeds the total number that may be funded for that fiscal year\, they will be asked to advise the Arts Com mission on which application(s) will be withdrawn from consideration. The Arts Commission requests that prospective applicants consider this restric tion before applying.
\nTeaching artists are encouraged to seek out partnerships with eligible organizations\, schools\, or units of governmen t. The entity you partner with will then serve as the direct applicant. Wh en building a partnership with an organization\, school\, or unit of gover nment\, make sure they are not applying to the Youth Arts Engagement Grant for a different project or to another grant program through the Arizona C ommission on the Arts.
\n
Grant funds may be used for a ny of the following (this list is not comprehensive):

All applications are subject to a public review process. First\, Arts Commission staff review each application for complet eness and eligibility. Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the due date are considered ineligible for panel review and funding.
\nEligible applications are then evaluated by independent review panels made up of arts learning specialists from communities throughout the stat e. They evaluate each application on its own merits and solely on the basi s of the published evaluation criteria.
\nPanelists first review app lications individually. They then meet as a body to discuss the applicatio ns and finalize assessment as a group. This meeting is open to the public and while applicants are not permitted to participate in the discussion\, they are encouraged to attend or listen-in online. Applicants being review ed will be notified when panel dates are set. At the conclusion of their d eliberations\, the panel submits their funding recommendations to the Arts Commission’s Governor-appointed board of commissioners for approval.

Organizations that may apply for Creative Capacity Grants\, Levels 1-5…
\n*Unincorporated organizations that are otherw ise eligible and whose annual budget is below $200\,000 may apply through a nonprofit fiscal sponsor.
\nOrganizations that may appl y for Creative Capacity Grants at levels 6 – 8…
\nMultidisciplinary or multipurpose organiz ations are eligible to apply if they meet the above requirements and can d emonstrate that over 51% of their public programming and budget is devoted to the arts. Multidisciplinary or multipurpose organizations should conta ct Arts Commission staff to discuss eligibility before applying.
\nAcross grant programs\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts limits the number of applications an organization may submit to one application per funding period. Organizations applying for a CCG in Fiscal Year 2025 may not apply for any other Arts Commission grants (e.g. \, Festival Grants\, Youth Arts Engagement Grants\, etc.).
\nCCG funds are intended to support general day-to-day ope rating costs\, such as the following:
\nSalaries and Personn el Expenses
\nCreative workers (e.g.\, artists\, tradition bearers\, designers\, educators\, curators\, program administrators\, serv ice providers\, etc.)\, production staff\, administrators\, teachers\, con tractors\, consultants
\nArtistic/Production Expenses
\nSupplies\, materials\, equipment\, venues\, royalties\, licensi ng
\nAdministrative Expenses
\nOffice space a nd supplies\, insurance\, professional services like accounting or payroll \, fees for banking\, online services and platforms\, training and educati on\, marketing and promotion
\n
Organizations apply for CCGs at one of eight grant levels. An organization’s grant leve l is determined by the adjusted annual revenue for their most recently com pleted fiscal year (for example\, Fiscal Year 2023). For the purposes of t his program\, Adjusted annual revenue is defined as the o rganization’s total annual revenue minus the monetary value of any in-kind support.
\nAward ranges are determined based on th e agency’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year\, the Arts Commission’s fun ding priorities\, and an organization’s panel review ranking (low\, medium\, or high).
\nAs the agency’s budget is not known until well after grant guidelines are published\, the amounts below are on ly projections of what may potentially be possible.
\nAward projecti ons for FY2025 are as follows:

In 2012\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts was remov ed from the State’s General Fund as an ongoing budget line-item. Since tha t time\, the agency’s annual grantmaking budget has been especially volati le\, dependent on one-time legislative appropriations\, which have ranged from $0 – $5 million. The agency’s grantmaking capacity for Fiscal Year 20 25 will not be known until the State’s budget is passed by the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor. This typically happens in late sprin g.
\nThe award ranges listed above are based on a potential grantmaking budget of $0.5 million. Depending on what happens in the Legis lature\, actual award amounts may be significantly different. Applicants a re strongly encouraged to budget conservatively.
\nFor more info on Arts Commission funding\, visit https://azarts.gov/about-us/who-we-are/budget/ .
\nThe CCG program operates on a multi-year funding cycle. Organizations submit a full applic ation once every three years\, according to the schedule below. In their t wo “alternate” years\, grantees submit only a brief status update and Fund er Report and are not subject to panel review.
\nIn consideration of the limited funding projected for FY2025\, all applicants who received CC G funding in FY2024 will be placed in alternate year status for FY2025. In lieu of a full application\, alternate year applicants submit only a brie f status update and Funder Report and are not subject to panel review.
\n(Applicants who did not receive CCG funding in FY2024 are still requi red to submit a full application and undergo panel review.)
\nThis i s an adjustment to the previously established multi-year funding cycle\, w hich would have required full applications from Level 4 & 5 organizations.

\nChanging Grant Level
\nOrganizations that are scheduled to
submit an Alternate Year application and would like to be considered at a
higher grant level than indicated by their previous application are requir
ed to submit a full application and undergo panel review. Please note that
alternate year organizations automatically maintain their previous fiscal
year panel review ranking\, but the corresponding award amount may change
if the financial data in their forthcoming Fiscal Year 2025 application i
ndicates a lower annual budget than previously recorded. If you have quest
ions or concerns about determining your forthcoming grant level\, please c
ontact Hanna Spence-Schehr at hs
penceschehr@azarts.gov.
Match CCG Award
\nGrantees must be able to match their CCG award with cash\, dollar for dollar\, by the end of the funding period (J une 30\, 2025). Matching funds may be earned (e.g.\, ticket sales\, partic ipation fees\, etc.) or contributed (e.g.\, private donations\, other gran ts\, etc.).
\nSubmit a Final Report
\nTo rema in eligible for future grants\, grantees must submit a final report to the Arts Commission at the conclusion of the funding period.
\n
Awards are paid out over the course of the Arts Commission’s fiscal year (July 1 – June 3 0) on a predetermined schedule. Typically\, payments begin with Level 1 gr antees in the second quarter of the agency’s fiscal year (October – Decemb er) and end with Level 8 grantees receiving payment in the fourth quarter (April – June).
\n
We encourage applicants to do the following prior to beginning their application:
\nRequest Ac commodations
\nIf you require accommodation in completing t he application or otherwise participating in the grant application process \, please contact Hanna Spence-Schehr at hspenceschehr@azarts.gov.
\nCreate or Update th e SurveyMonkey Apply Account for Your Organization
\nYou wi ll submit your application through an online submission platform called Su rveyMonkey Apply. Prior to applying\, all new applicants will need to regi ster their organization at https://azarts.smapply.io/.
\nIf your org anization already has an account\, we encourage you to confirm that all in formation is up to date and add/remove any team members as needed.
\nFor instructions on how to create or update your account\, visit our appl icant resources page: https://azarts.gov/grants/applicant-re sources/.
\nCreate or Update SMU DataArts Profile
\nDataArts’ Cultural Data Profile (CDP) is a free and secure onli ne survey that collects financial and programmatic data from nonprofit art s\, culture\, and humanities organizations. Organizations can then produce a variety of reports based on this data\, including the DataArts Funder Report submitted with the CCG application.
\nLog-in or register at https://da.culturaldata.org/.
\nIf you are new to usi ng DataArts\, you can find a video tutorial for getting started at https://culturaldat a.org/what-we-do/for-arts-cultural-organizations/the-cultural-data-profile /. For additional assistance\, contact the DataArts Support Center: h ttps://culturaldata.org/contact/.
\nObtain a Fiscal Spon sor Letter of Agreement (if applicable)
\nUnincorporated or ganizations applying with a fiscal sponsor will need to upload a Fiscal Sp onsor Letter of Agreement. This official letter\, signed by authorizing of ficials from both the applicant organization and the fiscal sponsor\, must state that the fiscal sponsor agrees to receive grant funds on behalf of the applicant\, deliver them to the applicant\, and maintain appropriate f inancial records. Additionally\, the applicant should be prepared to provi de a fiscal sponsor contact and indicate the fiscal sponsor’s administrati ve fee. (The fiscal sponsor’s administrative fee is the percentage of any potential grant funding that would be retained by the fiscal sponsor to co ver administrative costs associated with their sponsorship.)
\nIf yo u are unable to obtain a Letter of Agreement before the application deadli ne\, please contact Hanna Spence-Schehr at hspenceschehr@azarts.gov.
\nPrepare Narrative Responses
\nSome applicants find it helpful to develop the ir responses using word processing software\, outside the application plat form. This allows them to draft responses with team members and monitor th eir word counts for each question. Download a Word document version of the narrative questions.
\n
When you’re ready\, click on the “Apply Now” button below. Yo u do not have to complete the application in one session\; at any point yo u can save a draft of your application and complete or submit it later.
\n\n
Information collected in thi s section of the application is used for internal and reporting purposes o nly. You will be required to upload an IRS determination letter in the “Or ganization Type” section. (Units of government are exempt from this requir ement.)
