Since 2014\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts has partnered with the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA) to serve as the state’s official folk arts partner.
\nSFA is the fi rst dedicated folklife organization along the US-Mexico border corridor fo cused solely on uplifting\, supporting\, and presenting the work of tradit ional artists year-round. Their mission is to build more equitable and vib rant communities by celebrating the everyday expressions of culture\, heri tage and diversity in the Greater Southwest.
\nThese awards provide direct support for master traditi onal artists living in Arizona to pass on art\, culture\, and heritage pra ctices to apprentice learners through the annual SFA Master-Apprentice Awa rd. The award is made possible in part by the National Endowment for the A rts and Arizona Commission on the Arts.
\nThe Master-Apprentice Arti st supports a master artist or tradition bearer to work with a qualified a pprentice (or group of apprentices) to engage in a teaching-learning relat ionship that includes one-on-one mentorship and hands-on experience. Our h ighest priority is to support apprentices to learn from master artists wit hin their own cultural traditions. Funds can be used to help cover artist fees\, offset costs of raw materials\, and support any travel essential to the exchange. Traditional artists & culture bearers receive a $5\,000\; a pprentices receive $500.
\nVisit the SFA website for more inform ation.

For each narrativ e question you will find a maximum word count (not character) and a maximu m recording length. If you share your proposal narrative via audio recordi ngs\, keep it simple and to the point. Don’t worry about impressing the pa nelists with your recording technique\, just make sure we can hear and und erstand you. All audio files must be uploaded as MP3 files (.mp3). Some ap plicants find it helpful to develop the narrative portion of the applicati on using word processing software\, outside the application platform. This allows them to thoughtfully draft their responses and monitor their word counts for each question.
\nIn the inter est of improving the user experience for applicants and reviewers\, the Ar izona Commission on the Arts has transitioned to a new submission platform this year: SurveyMonkey Apply. \nor
\nYou can upload it in a anudio recording (8 minutes in length).
\nDo not include links to external websites or video hosting platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo.< /p>\n
If you share your proposal narrative in an audio recording\, keep it simple and to the point. The recording should be just you\, describing your proposal and answering the five questions listed above. Please do not include edits of your work samples. Production quality of this recording will not be considered in your review. Just make sure we can hear and unde rstand you and keep editing and post-production embellishment to a minimum .
\nSubmit work samples you’ve completed in the la st 5 years. From the list to the right\, please choose the most appropriat e artistic work sample format to represent your discipline:

\nExpenses Li st
\nList total eligible expenses (artist stipends\, including your own artist stipend\, materials\, travel costs\, equipment\ , space rental\, production costs\, documentation\, marketing\, rehearsal time\, childcare\, etc.) related to your proposal.

\nYou can type your proposal narrative or you can upload
audio recordings of your responses. For each narrative question you will
find a maximum word count (not character) and a maximum recording length.
If you share your proposal narrative via audio recordings\, keep it simple
and to the point. Don’t worry about impressing the panelists with your re
cording technique\, just make sure we can hear and understand you. All aud
io files must be uploaded as MP3 files (.mp3).
Some applicants fin d it helpful to develop the narrative portion of the application using wor d processing software\, outside the application platform. This allows them to thoughtfully draft their responses and monitor their word counts for e ach question. A Word document version of the narrative questions can be do wnloaded here.
