CATEGORIES;LANGUAGE=en-US:Agency\,Individual Artist CONTACT: DESCRIPTION:Through the State Partnership Grant\, the National Endowment for the Arts provides state arts agencies with support for stable\, profe ssionally-directed programs that are responsive to a state’s diverse folk and traditional arts heritage. Since 2014\, the Arizona Commission on the Arts has partnered with the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA) to serve as the state’s official folk arts partner.
\nSFA is the fi rst dedicated folklife organization along the US-Mexico border corridor fo cused solely on uplifting\, supporting\, and presenting the work of tradit ional artists year-round. Their mission is to build more equitable and vib rant communities by celebrating the everyday expressions of culture\, heri tage and diversity in the Greater Southwest.
\nThese awards provide direct support for master traditi onal artists living in Arizona to pass on art\, culture\, and heritage pra ctices to apprentice learners through the annual SFA Master-Apprentice Awa rd. The award is made possible in part by the National Endowment for the A rts and Arizona Commission on the Arts.
\nThe Master-Apprentice Arti st supports a master artist or tradition bearer to work with a qualified a pprentice (or group of apprentices) to engage in a teaching-learning relat ionship that includes one-on-one mentorship and hands-on experience. Our h ighest priority is to support apprentices to learn from master artists wit hin their own cultural traditions. Funds can be used to help cover artist fees\, offset costs of raw materials\, and support any travel essential to the exchange. Traditional artists & culture bearers receive a $5\,000\; a pprentices receive $500.
\nVisit the SFA website for more inform ation.

All applications are subject to a public review process. First\, Arts Commission staff review each application for complet eness and eligibility. Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the due date are considered ineligible for panel review and funding.
\nEligible applications are then evaluated by independent review panels made up of arts learning specialists from communities throughout the stat e. They evaluate each application on its own merits and solely on the basi s of the published evaluation criteria.
\nPanelists first review app lications individually. They then meet as a body to discuss the applicatio ns and finalize assessment as a group. This meeting is open to the public and while applicants are not permitted to participate in the discussion\, they are encouraged to attend or listen-in online. Applicants being review ed will be notified when panel dates are set. At the conclusion of their d eliberations\, the panel submits their funding recommendations to the Arts Commission’s Governor-appointed board of commissioners for approval.

\nMultidisciplinary or mult ipurpose organizations are eligible to apply if they meet the above requir ements and can demonstrate that over 51% of their public programming and b udget is devoted to the arts. Multidisciplinary or multipurpose organizati ons should contact Arts Commission staff to discuss eligibility before app lying.
\nAcross grant programs\, the Ar izona Commission on the Arts limits the number of applications an organiza tion may submit to one application per funding period. Organizations apply ing for a CCG in Fiscal Year 2025 may not apply for any other Arts Commiss ion grants (e.g.\, Festival Grants\, Youth Arts Engagement Grants\, etc.).
\nCCG funds are intended to support genera l day-to-day operating costs\, such as the following:
\nSala ries and Personnel Expenses
\nCreative workers (e.g.\, arti sts\, tradition bearers\, designers\, educators\, curators\, program admin istrators\, service providers\, etc.)\, production staff\, administrators\ , teachers\, contractors\, consultants

Organizations apply for CCGs at one of eight grant levels. An organizat ion’s grant level is determined by the adjusted annual revenue for their m ost recently completed fiscal year (for example\, Fiscal Year 2023). For t he purposes of this program\, Adjusted annual revenue is defined as the organization’s total annual revenue minus the monetary valu e of any in-kind support.
\nAward ranges are determ ined based on the agency’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year\, the Arts Commission’s funding priorities\, and an organization’s panel revi ew ranking (low\, medium\, or high).
\nAs the agency’s budg et is not known until well after grant guidelines are published\, the amou nts below are only projections of what may potentially be possible.

In 2012\, the Arizona Commission on th e Arts was removed from the State’s General Fund as an ongoing budget line -item. Since that time\, the agency’s annual grantmaking budget has been e specially volatile\, dependent on one-time legislative appropriations\, wh ich have ranged from $0 – $5 million. The agency’s grantmaking capacity fo r Fiscal Year 2025 will not be known until the State’s budget is passed by the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor. This typically happe ns in late spring.
\nThe award ranges listed above are based on a potential grantmaking budget of $0.5 million. Depending on what happ ens in the Legislature\, actual award amounts may be significantly differe nt. Applicants are strongly encouraged to budget conservatively.< /p>\n
For more info on Arts Commission funding\, visit https://azarts.gov/about-us/who-we -are/budget/.
\nThe CCG program operates on a multi-year funding cycle. Organizations subm it a full application once every three years\, according to the schedule b elow. In their two “alternate” years\, grantees submit only a brief status update and Funder Report and are not subject to panel review.
\nIn consideration of the limited funding projected for FY2025\, all applicants who received CCG funding in FY2024 will be placed in alternate year statu s for FY2025. In lieu of a full application\, alternate year applicants su bmit only a brief status update and Funder Report and are not subject to p anel review.
\n(Applicants who did not receive CCG funding in FY2024 are still required to submit a full application and undergo panel review. )
\nThis is an adjustment to the previously established multi-year f unding cycle\, which would have required full applications from Level 4 & 5 organizations.

For FY2025 funding\, Organizations will submit a full or alternate year applic ation according to the table below:
\nFull Application
\nAlternate Year Application
\nChanging Grant Level
\nOrganizations that a
re scheduled to submit an Alternate Year application and would like to be
considered at a higher grant level than indicated by their previous applic
ation are required to submit a full application and undergo panel review.
Please note that alternate year organizations automatically maintain their
previous fiscal year panel review ranking\, but the corresponding award a
mount may change if the financial data in their forthcoming Fiscal Year 20
25 application indicates a lower annual budget than previously recorded. I
f you have questions or concerns about determining your forthcoming grant
level\, please contact Hanna Spence-Schehr at hspenceschehr@azarts.gov.
Match CCG Award
\nGrantees must be able to match their CCG award with cash\, dollar for dollar\, by the end of the f unding period (June 30\, 2025). Matching funds may be earned (e.g.\, ticke t sales\, participation fees\, etc.) or contributed (e.g.\, private donati ons\, other grants\, etc.).
\nSubmit a Final Report
\nTo remain eligible for future grants\, grantees must submit a fin al report to the Arts Commission at the conclusion of the funding period.< /p>\n
Awards are paid out over the course of the Arts Commission’s fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) on a predetermined schedule. Typically\, payments begin with Level 1 grantees in the second quarter of the agency’s fiscal year ( October – December) and end with Level 8 grantees receiving payment in the fourth quarter (April – June).

All applications are subje ct to a public review process. First\, Arts Commission staff review each a pplication for completeness and eligibility. Applications that are incompl ete or submitted after the due date are considered ineligible for panel re view and funding. Eligible applications are then evaluated by independent review panels made up of individuals from communities throughout the state who work in or adjacent to the arts. They evaluate each application on it s own merits and solely on the basis of the published evaluation criteria.
\nPanelists first review applications individually. They then meet as a body to discuss the applications and finalize assessment as a group. This meeting is open to the public and while applicants are not permitted to participate in the discussion\, they are encouraged to attend or listen -in online. Applicants being reviewed will be notified when panel dates ar e set.
